JOINT HEALTH/INJURY MANAGEMENT
We all know that building and maintaining muscle mass is crucial for wellness, weight loss and performance. The traditional method of this is often lifting weights in linear patterns often with heavier loads. This method breaks down the muscles which, in turn, repairs themselves with thicker fibers. Though weightlifting works, there are certain scenarios where this may not be the best approach.
We have found that with certain injuries and ailments, traditional weight training can actually make things worse. Because the body is under tension and compression (like a barbell on your shoulder), very little blood flow and oxygen are delivered to the tendons and connective tissues. With certain dysfunctions this can cause excessive stiffness and soreness, and sometimes it can make matters worse.
Like much in life, preference is a huge deciding factor in training. Regardless of whether or not a training method works, you might not train regularly simply because you just don’t like the workout. If you dislike lifting, for example, you will often give it a half-hearted approach or just plain refuse to do it.
Developing lean mass while helping manage injury and aches and pains for our clients has been incredibly rewarding. Though we do see weight lifting as an effective mode of training, we believe having alternative training methods are also extremely beneficial.
